Hesitant in Love

The unexpected warmth
Of the words you write
Wrap around me like a hug

Comforting
Grounding
Disengaging the anxieties within me.

I hold these feelings with caution
For fear of assuming too much
Intention where there is none
As I've done too often
Time and time again

"Be forward, " they said
"Let them lead," they advise
Conflicting pieces of advice
Neutralize
And so, I stay still
React as if nothing happened
As if there was nothing to pick up

This was a poem I wrote considering all the well-intentioned dating advice I have received from others. At the end of the day, there is only one way to move forward: to confront your feelings, share them, and move on.
